AIXM - SHP Converter

Aeronautical Data Conversion Service

I. Service purpose

Service provide the ability to convert data stored in XML (Extensible Markup Language) with AIXM (Aeronautical Information Exchange Model) extension to ESRI Shapefile format, and conversely. Service enables two-way conversion compatible with eTOD (electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data) standards.

II. Standards

AIXM was developed by EUROCONTROL (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation) in coordination with FAA (US Federal Aviation Administration) to enable management and distribution of AIM (Aeronautical Information Management) data in digital format. AIXM schema in based on GML (Geographical Markup Language).

An AMDB is a spatial data set containing the spatial layout of an aerodrome in terms of its features, with geometry as points, lines or polygons, and with corresponding attributes. Mapping between Shapefile and AIXM for AMDB data set is based on and compatible with "EUROCONTROL Guidelines For ED-99 Airport Mapping Requirements In AIXM 5.1"

An eTOD is a spatial data set containing a digital representation of terrain and terrain obstacles important from the perspective of air navigation. Mapping between Shapefile and AIXM for eTOD data set is based on and compatible with standards ED-119 / RTCA-DO-291 ("Interchange Standards For Terrain, Obstacle, And Aerodrome Mapping Data").

Schema of ESRI Shapefile produced by converter as output files are consistent with description contained in ED-119 / RTCA-DO-291 standards. AIXM files generated by the converter as output files are AIXM files in version 5.1.1. The correctness of the AIXM output file schema was consulted with EUROCONTROL. The MD_Metadata extension according to ISO 19115 Metadata is used to store metadata in AIXM. It is also used as source of metadata for output Shapefile.

III. Restrictions

- The input data formats for the conversion process are limited to ESRI Shapefile and AIXM 5.1.1.

- All conversion restrictions result from the specification "EUROCONTROL Guidelines for ED-99 airport mapping requirements in AIXM 5.1".

V. FAQ

Q: What the free version of the conversion service allows?

A: You can upload both AIXM file and Shapefiles, map attributes and classes, make a conversion and check correctness of the conversion, but you can not download the converted files.

Q: An input error/warning message has appeared. What to do?

A: The error message is displayed in the absence, empty or incorrect, required by the AIXM scheme, value. To correct the error/warning, please check the correctness of the input data. Especially, the compatibility of input data with the ED-119 / RTCA-DO-291 standard and the correctness of the geometry topology.

Q: I am interested in buying the possibility of downloading the resulting data. How to contact your service provider?

A: The department dealing with the sale of the conversion service is available under: sales@kpgeo.pl.

Q: I encountered an error. What to do now?

A: Any comments and/or operation errors can be reported under: support@kpgeo.pl. Error log files are automatically stored on the service provider's server.
